Indy Text based gaming and social media

Once upon a time we didn’t have always on 5G+ULTRASATELLITEXLINKINTERGALACTIC hyper internet VR blah blah blah keeping us entertained. We passed notes in class, left them in pre-ordained drop off locations and used dialup modems over phone lines (and maybe even payphones and very expensive radio telephone networks) and knew what frequency modulation was.

Many systems went offline as commercial Internet became more commonly available but some continue to operate to this day along with various public and private echo and gaming networks. Cooler to see is new BBS software being written in nodejs (Enigma) and the ancients like SynchroNet have incorporated modern net tech such as Javascript for many of its services and apps!

We see new systems come online regularly as people explore alternate systems that come with a lower cost/lower overhead/lower bandwidth communications option and an alternative to the global pirate boards, err.. main stream social media sites.. that dominate within the media landscape.
